What’s going on in your community this spring?

  • March 14, 2022

Spring into action and get involved in your local community this season. There is an abundance of activities taking place in your community as the weather warms up and the outdoors begins to flourish. Here are some of our top picks of community events taking place across the country over the next few months.

The Big Lunch!
When: Sunday 3rd June

Where: Everywhere

The Big Lunch is the UK’s biggest annual get together for neighbours. All over the nation communities will be sitting down together for a few hours to enjoy scrumptious food and good company. In 2017, 9.3 million people sat down together so why not be one of them in 2018!

Mobile cinema

When: Thursday 12th April

Where: Cornerstones Centre, Chester-Le-Street

The mobile cinema will be returning to Cornerstones and this time showing Paddington 2! The film will begin at 11am and tickets cost £1. Make sure you do as Paddington would do and pack some marmalade sandwiches to chomp on as you watch.

Creating Healthy Eating Habits

When: Thursday 19th April

Where: Creative Living Centre, Prestwich

Learn more about eating mindfully to benefit body and mind in this workshop. Head down to the centre Saturday evenings as well to eat healthily and ethically by enjoying a FoodCycle meal made from surplus food!

Community Bake Off and Cake Sale

When: Tuesday 24th April 10am – 12pm

Where: Wonford Community Centre, Exeter

If you enjoy baking cakes and/or eating them, this event is one not to be missed! With prizes for ‘most beautiful cake’, ‘best tasting cake’ and ‘best cupcake’, you can enter your cake for just 50p. All money raised will go towards the Wonford Community Centre resource and lending library, so you can eat cake to support a wonderful local cause. What’s not to like?

Family Fun Day: Architecture for the Future

When: Saturday 7th April 11am – 4pm

Where: Royal Institute of British Architects, London

An activity for all ages, head to the Royal Institute of British Architects to design you very own buildings of the future. A great one to keep the kids entertained during the Easter holidays! Entry is completely free but you must register online.

Ageing Well Yoga

Where: Birmingham Settlement, Birmingham

Discover the world of yoga this spring! This community class takes place every Monday (excluding Bank Holidays) and offers over 50s the chance to kick start their week with gentle and energising movement. A great way to meet new people and wake up hibernating muscles!

Norfolk Spring Fling

When: Tuesday 10th April 09:30 – 15:30

Where: Norfolk Showground

Visit the Norfolk Spring Fling for an educational day out where you can learn about farming, food and the countryside. With over 70 interactive stands and animals to see including ponies, owls and goats, you won’t be short of things to do. Tickets cost £9.50 (under twos go free) and include a hog roast or vegetarian lunch.

SHARE Repair and Upcycling Party

When: Sunday 15th April 3pm – 5:30pm

Where: Remakery Frome, Bath

This making and mending event truly gets into the FoodCycle spirit by saving items from the landfill by giving them a bit of TLC! Bring along your broken items and volunteers will fix them if they can for free! From wobbly furniture to ripped jeans, this crafty bunch are up for a challenge.  Entry is free but you must register in advance.

🎾 A huge shoutout to our friends at Danone for treating some of our amazing volunteers (and a few staff too!) to an unforgettable day at Wimbledon 💚

On 5th July, a group of lucky volunteers from all over the country were picked in a random draw and got to enjoy top tennis action plus a tasty lunch and afternoon tea.

We’re so grateful to Danone for recognising the time, care and energy our volunteers give every week. You are the heart of FoodCycle and we love being able to say thank you in fun and meaningful ways like this.

Here’s to more memories, more meals and more community 💫

50 guests, a buzzing dining room and a whole lot of love in Clacton this week!

The sun was shining, the queue was full of chatter, and the energy inside was just as warm 💚

A huge shout out to newly graduated Project Leader Yvonne, who served up her first official meal made entirely from fresh surplus ingredients and nailed it! 👏

Every guest left with a grocery bag to take home, and Collection PL Chris worked his usual magic, making sure nothing went to waste. Even his chickens were happy with the scraps 🐓

Great food, great people, great Monday. Clacton, you rock!
