Why I loved the FoodCycle Annual Conference 2017

Hello everyone, my name is Roisin I’ve been volunteering with FoodCycle for a couple of years. I started as a cooking leader in Portsmouth, but I’ve since moved to the Bristol project. I spend most of the time hosting or thinking up marketing ideas.

In October, myself and a few other Bristol project leaders headed to London for the conference. The conference is great because it gives the Project Leaders a chance to meet up with projects from around the country – I ended up making friends with some of the Peterborough team, and I’m going to have to visit the Birmingham and Sheffield projects at some point soon.

Over the two days, we attended several workshops run by experts in mental health, nutrition and social care. These were a wonderful opportunity for us to re-cap, learn new skills and swap tips.  On top of workshops, we also had some fantastic presentations from project leaders, FoodCycle staff and representatives from other food waste charities. Overall, being around so many passionate and dedicated people made me feel very fortunate.

The venue was also amazing, it had a great presentation room and some nice views of the city.

The best part of the weekend for me was sitting with the others for a lovely meal. Even among the Bristol team, it is hard to find time to socialise, so I really appreciated being able to hang out without a hair-net and apron on!

So, thank you to the FoodCycle head office team for putting on such a magnificent event and to Hogan Lovells for having us!
