Here are some of our top picks of community events taking place across the country over the next few months.
The Big Lunch!
When: Sunday 3rd June
Where: Everywhere
The Big Lunch is the UK’s biggest annual get together for neighbours. All over the nation communities will be sitting down together for a few hours to enjoy scrumptious food and good company. In 2017, 9.3 million people sat down together so why not be one of them in 2018!
When: Thursday 12th April
Where: Cornerstones Centre, Chester-Le-Street
The mobile cinema will be returning to Cornerstones and this time showing Paddington 2! The film will begin at 11am and tickets cost £1. Make sure you do as Paddington would do and pack some marmalade sandwiches to chomp on as you watch.
Creating Healthy Eating Habits
When: Thursday 19th April
Where: Creative Living Centre, Prestwich
Learn more about eating mindfully to benefit body and mind in this workshop. Head down to the centre Saturday evenings as well to eat healthily and ethically by enjoying a FoodCycle meal made from surplus food!
Community Bake Off and Cake Sale
When: Tuesday 24th April 10am – 12pm
Where: Wonford Community Centre, Exeter
If you enjoy baking cakes and/or eating them, this event is one not to be missed! With prizes for ‘most beautiful cake’, ‘best tasting cake’ and ‘best cupcake’, you can enter your cake for just 50p. All money raised will go towards the Wonford Community Centre resource and lending library, so you can eat cake to support a wonderful local cause. What’s not to like?
Family Fun Day: Architecture for the Future
When: Saturday 7th April 11am – 4pm
Where: Royal Institute of British Architects, London
An activity for all ages, head to the Royal Institute of British Architects to design you very own buildings of the future. A great one to keep the kids entertained during the Easter holidays! Entry is completely free but you must register online.
When: Every Monday 10:15am – 11:15am
Where: Birmingham Settlement, Birmingham
Discover the world of yoga this spring! This community class takes place every Monday (excluding Bank Holidays) and offers over 50s the chance to kick start their week with gentle and energising movement. A great way to meet new people and wake up hibernating muscles!
When: Tuesday 10th April 09:30 – 15:30
Where: Norfolk Showground
Visit the Norfolk Spring Fling for an educational day out where you can learn about farming, food and the countryside. With over 70 interactive stands and animals to see including ponies, owls and goats, you won’t be short of things to do. Tickets cost £9.50 (under twos go free) and include a hog roast or vegetarian lunch.
SHARE Repair and Upcycling Party
When: Sunday 15th April 3pm – 5:30pm
Where: Remakery Frome, Bath
This making and mending event truly gets into the FoodCycle spirit by saving items from the landfill by giving them a bit of TLC! Bring along your broken items and volunteers will fix them if they can for free! From wobbly furniture to ripped jeans, this crafty bunch are up for a challenge. Entry is free but you must register in advance.
