Position Summary
Do you want to work with multiple-award winning charity, FoodCycle? Our vision is to make food poverty, loneliness and food waste a thing of the past for every community. It’s always a busy time for us in London, as we coordinate and manage 36 three-course community meals per week in community venues and schools across the capital. In the upcoming summer holiday season we need some additional support to keep things going to enable us to continue providing meals for ~ 1200 guests per week.
By joining us for the summer you’ll gain an understanding of different aspects of local project delivery for a national charity and the varied ingredients that go into making each of our meals happen. You’ll be hands-on and have an immediate impact each day, leading small teams of volunteers who cook in the kitchen and host our guests to create a positive and welcoming environment and a nutritious vegetarian meal. Our meals projects take place during the day, in the evenings and at weekends, so we need you to be flexible. We anticipate you’ll be supporting 3 meals per week on average, with around 5 hours required per meal.
You’ll be supported by our experienced operational team and we will equip you with a package of training and shadowing, including specific training around food and to do with our diverse guest base, some of whom are vulnerable people. Depending on the level of need, there might also be capacity to get you involved in tasks relating to volunteer recruitment, guest outreach and sourcing food surplus.
