Before moving into her role as Chair of Trustees in January 2024, Mary was CEO of FoodCycle for more than ten years. She is passionate about building communities and enabling people to connect with each other over good food. She loves talking about FoodCycle and the amazing people she has met during her time at the charity.

In 2021 Mary was awarded an MBE for her charitable services to the country.

“I feel so privileged to be part of such a fantastic charity and I have met so many amazing people through FoodCycle, from guests, volunteers and supporters. I love the fact we tackle so many challenges, from building communities to food waste. I know first-hand that the power of good food is phenomenal.”

David joined the board of Trustees in early 2020 as part of a desire to volunteer time in a meaningful way and to add value from his business experience. Food and the social experiences revolving around it have always been central to his life so FoodCycle is a perfect fit.

He has held various senior finance roles in a wide range of industries. He is currently a Finance Director for a large data centre operator. He holds a degree in Economics from The University of Nottingham and an MBA from London Business School. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Sam joined the board of Trustees at the end of 2023, following six months as FoodCycle’s Interim Head of Finance and part of the Senior Management Team. This secondment was sponsored by her employer, the John Lewis Partnership, where she has held various roles in the John Lewis and Waitrose finance teams and is currently Commercial Finance Lead. She is a chartered accountant (ACMA CGMA) and holds an MA from the University of Cambridge.

Sam is delighted to continue to be part of FoodCycle. She is passionate about purpose-led organisations and their role in driving sustainability and tackling inequality. She loves food and cooking, and enjoys trying new recipes and finding ways to reduce her food waste and be more plant-based.

Kalyani joined the board of Trustees in summer 2021. She currently advises on equality, diversity and inclusion policy at UK Research and Innovation.

Kalyani has a long-standing interest and passion in food sustainability issues. She previously worked with FoodCycle LSE as a project leader and coordinator for over 4 years. She’s also researched food poverty issues within Cambridge as part of helping to set up the Cambridge Food Poverty Alliance. More recently, she co-founded Nourish Our World, a programme to help connect young people with food and climate change challenges.

Kalyani has a multi-disciplinary background having spent time in academia obtaining a PhD in materials chemistry and remains passionate about tackling deep-rooted and complex systems-level societal and environmental issues. She loves to cook, weave and spend as much time as possible in the countryside.

Matt Bushby

Matt is the Chief Marketing Officer at Rightmove, sitting on the exec team of the FTSE 100 business and responsible for the marketing portfolio across trade, customer and corporate.

He has spent his career in leadership roles across several digital businesses. Most recently at Just Eat he ran marketing for UK&I and was part of the leadership team built its position as market leader.

It was at Just Eat where Matt was introduced to FoodCycle where they worked together on different campaigns where Just Eat and its customers helped to support the FoodCycle mission.

Frances Le Grys

Frances is a corporate lawyer by background and was formerly a Partner & General Counsel at an international law firm, with a role advising the Chair, Boards, Committees and stakeholders on business-critical matters, risk strategy, corporate structures, governance and liability issues. She is also an experienced non-executive director with over 15 years experience working with non-profits and charities and as a school governor. Frances has a particular interest in corporate governance and business ethics.  Her current focus is on cyber risk and cyber security, and she is very interested in issues relating to food poverty and food security, also acting as a trustee of Hammersmith & Fulham Foodbanks. During the pandemic Frances was a frequent volunteer in the vaccine rollout programme and is keen to highlight and support the key role played by volunteers.

Clare joined the board of FoodCycle as a Trustee in 2025. Her background is in advertising and marketing, working for many large international agencies as well as in Google’s Creative Lab. In her most recent role as Chief Production Officer of Publicis Groupe UK, she established the Green Council and championed a strategy towards net zero by 2030. She is in the process of completing an MSc in International Disaster Management and Humanitarian Response, is an alumni of the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership and did her undergraduate degree at Cambridge in Social and Political Sciences.

Having partnered with a number of charities and non-profits over the years, Clare is delighted to combine her love of connecting people with her love of food. As the mother of a professional chef, she brings a discerning eye to the community dining experience!

Vibhuti Patel

Vibhuti joined the board of Trustees in spring 2025. She works at the University of Cambridge, building international philanthropic partnerships to support education and research. Following her Ph.D. in biochemistry, she worked for the Royal Society of Chemistry and has consulted on research impact for the European Commission.

Vibhuti has been a keen supporter of FoodCycle for over a decade, and spent time as a Project Leader for FoodCycle Cambridge, where she was involved in venue changes, new pop-up meal services and managing continuity through the pandemic. She is also notorious for both her dessert creations and her ability to get creative with Brussels sprouts.

Will is a technology lawyer by background, having trained and qualified at an international law firm before spending the majority of his career to-date in a variety of legal positions within start-up, scale-up and large multinational corporations. He has also been a free school governor, trustee for a number of years and a volunteer with local food and homeless shelter charities.
