Lent: the time to be a Hub Leader

Lent is upon us and many of you will have now banned chocolate, crisps, biscuits, cake or cheese to pass your lips for the next 40 days.

But we’ve got a challenge for you: instead of giving up one of the banned substances mentioned above, why not take up something up? Become a FoodCycle Hub Leader!

Hub Leaders are the amazing individuals who keep our projects running: they manage food pick-ups, run the kitchens, support our incredible volunteers, organise fundraising events, do outreach work in the community and much, much more – all with a big smile on their faces.

Here’s three reasons why you could make this Lent all about taking up rather than giving up…

You’ll do something wonderful for your community

We can’t emphasise enough just how important Hub Leaders are to the running of our FoodCycle meals which make a huge difference in towns and cities across the country. Last year alone, we served over 38,000 meals for vulnerable people and being a Hub Leader will mean you become part of a national movement, committed to tackling poverty, food waste and loneliness.

You’ll learn lots of new skills

Whether you want to learn some new skills or develop ones you already have, being a Hub Leader is a great way of finding out how to do something new as well as adding to your CV. Over 85% of our Hub Leaders say that the experiences they have gained at FoodCycle Hubs will help them in their careers.

It’s lots of fun!

Last but definitely not least, being a Hub Leader is tonnes of fun. You’ll meet new people, make new friends and have a laugh in the kitchen – what’s not to love?
