TV’s Jack Thorne is Our New Patron!

  • March 14, 2022

We’re happy to announce that Jack Thorne, superstar television and theatre producer is our new FoodCycle Patron!

Famous for his midas touch on award-winning television shows like Shameless, Skins, This is England 86’ and the Channel 4’s recent hit, Help starring Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer, Jack is also a passionate advocate for the disabled community in the dramatic arts. He was introduced to our work last December, when we became the charity partner for London theatre The Old Vic’s brilliant stage production of A Christmas Carol.

Jack says…

“What a beautiful thing FoodCycle has made. I was lucky enough to join the volunteers at FoodCycle Islington recently and I was really touched by everything it was and the way everyone clearly needed it. And the food was delicious and healthy .”

Jack visited FoodCycle Islington in September 2021, where he rolled up his sleeves and donned a FoodCycle apron to join the FoodCycle cooking volunteers in the kitchens of New River Baptist Church. He was also able to sit down with FoodCycle guests to enjoy a three-course vegetarian meal made with surplus food and was joined by our CEO, Mary McGrath MBE.

Jack learned about FoodCycle’s work through the Old Vic’s production of A Christmas Carol for which FoodCycle was the London Theatre’s chosen charity partner and which won praise for Thorne as the show’s writer. He will also use his profile to play an active role in helping the charity raise vital funds. This was kick-started before he signed on as a Patron last year, when Jack generously pledged to match the audience’s donations.

We asked our CEO Mary what she thought…

”It was fantastic to introduce Jack to some of our FoodCycle volunteers and guests and show him the true magic of a FoodCycle meal. We look forward to working together to raise vital funds to help us continue to strengthen communities across the country with a hot meal and great conversation.”

We are busy planning more visits for Jack to FoodCycle Projects so watch this space for more news!
