Creating content for FoodCycle

  • March 14, 2022

You are FoodCycle’s biggest asset and we want to hear from you.  Here are some tips if you want to share either pictures or videos with us.

We always keep an eye on what our projects upload to social media or what you tag us in, but if you’d like to send us content directly please email it to rosy@foodcycle.org.uk.

Tips for taking a photograph of yourself on your phone

  • Take the picture in natural daylight, either outside or by a window
  • Think about your background, try to make sure there isn’t anything too distracting on show
  • Avoid wearing white or black
  • Make sure you’re in focus
  • It doesn’t need to be too close up, you don’t have to take up the whole frame
  • Don’t use filters, you don’t need them!

Tips for taking a photograph of something else on your phone

  • Use gridlines if that’s an option on your phone to space your picture
  • Make sure the most important element of your picture is in focus
  • Embrace open space around the most important element of your photo
  • Avoid zooming in
  • Use natural light
  • Make the picture candid, sometimes posed isn’t always better

Tips for making a short video on your phone

  • Remember to keep your phone horizontal or landscape
  • Film yourself in natural daylight, either outside or by a window
  • Test your audio, film a short clip of yourself first and check the sound is clear and consistent
  • Think about your background, try to make sure there isn’t anything too distracting on show
  • Avoid wearing white or black or strong patterns
  • Don’t feel as though you have to stand still, you can move around if it helps you to talk naturally
  • Be honest, people will relate to you if you open up and share your honest feelings
  • Tell us a story and don’t worry about going on, we can edit the clips

Here’s an example:

Remember to follow us on social media and tag us in your content. You can use the hashtag #WeAreFoodCycle
