Being able to provide nutritious meals to guests and volunteers is at the core of what we do at FoodCycle. As part of our ongoing partnership, Danone UK & Ireland, wanted to bring their skills and experience to the table to help support both volunteers and guests around the subject of nutrition.
To begin with, they worked with the nutrition agency, Nutrilicious, and the FoodCycle team, to create a new, refreshed training module to help increase volunteers’ knowledge and understanding of healthy and nutritious eating. It includes the creation of slides for future training sessions and videos, with cooking tips to demonstrate the value of cooking from scratch and helpful information about howwe can get the right nutrients into our diets. The tips in these training modules will help support the volunteers both at home and when cooking at a FoodCycle Project.
In addition to this, we have also created a guide to eating well, which covers a range of topics, including how diet influences health, tips on buying fruit and vegetables, how to waste less food as well as some tasty recipes.
The booklet can be downloaded below and we’ll also be printing copies for FoodCycle guests.
Hannah Molloy, Nutrition Manager at Danone UK & Ireland, who helped develop the materials, added: “At Danone, we’re focused on bringing health through food to as many people as possible. We believe it’s important that information on healthy and nutritious diets is more accessible for people of all ages. The videos and guide are great resources for both FoodCycle guests and volunteers to help show some of the simple things we can think about when shopping and cooking to ensure our nutritional needs are properly being met.”
