Why volunteer with FoodCycle as a student?

For students, FoodCycle offers an ideal volunteering experience. You don’t need to have any previous experience, we don’t ask that you commit long-term and it’s a great way to gain new skills, meet new people, build an impressive CV, plus you can get a tasty meal too!

We spoke to three of our brilliant student volunteers to find out why they chose to volunteer with FoodCycle…

For Todd, a Fashion Design student, he started volunteering as part of a scheme that encourages graduates to gain extra skills for your CV. Todd researched local volunteering opportunities and decided on FoodCycle because as well as getting those valuable skills, he was also giving back to his local community.

“If you’re a student and thinking about volunteering, please do it, it’s a great group everybody is really lovely and kind.”

For Ariel, he initially came to FoodCycle meals as a guest but felt inspired to help out as a volunteer. His favourite thing about FoodCycle is the atmosphere at the project and how friendly he’s found the other volunteers.

Ariel is from Cameroon and encourages anybody who may speak English as a second language to come along and don’t be shy!

“Everybody’s friendly, just come along!”

For student Nedilson, he said that joining FoodCycle the best decision he’s ever made. Nedilson loves to challenge himself and really enjoys meeting and learning from different people. When asked about how it was volunteering with a disability he told us: “Fight for your dreams, don’t let yourself be defined by your disability.”

“That’s what I love about being part of FoodCycle, the community we build along the way.”

Chloe started volunteering for FoodCycle whilst on summer break from University and found  that flexible volunteering shifts enabled her to volunteer alongside her studies. As an aspiring healthcare professional, Chloe is  interested in helping people within her local community and improving health and wellbeing. What a fabulous fit for FoodCycle!

“I always look forward to my next session.”

For Louisa, an engineering student, she loves volunteering with FoodCycle because it’s so flexible around her schedule as a student. She enjoys meeting people from all walks of life and working with the lovely team at her project.

“Just turn up and see if you like it, I’m sure you’ll be welcomed by the lovely team.”
