As volunteer Communications Project Leader you’ll be a vital part of the FoodCycle marketing team, helping raise awareness across online and offline media. You will be working with the rest of the team to promote the work of your local Project/s, encourage volunteer sign ups and ensure people know about our work.

What experience do I need?
You don’t need to have any previous experience – you just need to be brimming with enthusiasm for spreading the word about FoodCycle projects!
We’ll give you training and support, and you’ll develop communication skills that will look great on your CV – from managing social media accounts to finding great stories. You’ll also get training in some specific areas like working with the media.
Best of all, you’ll enjoy a fun, creative volunteer experience with ownership over a community-led project that makes a real, positive difference in people’s lives.
How much time do I need to commit?
The suggested minimum time commitment for the Communications Project Leader role is 8 hours a month.
A Project Leader is a slightly more senior volunteer role, with extra training to help you feel confident running the sessions, supporting the volunteers and ensuring everyone has a good time! Project Leaders are also asked to submit a short report after each session and attend regular Project Leader team meetings. All Project Leaders are DBS checked.
As a Project Leader you will be required to complete Food Safety Level 2, Food Allergens, Safeguarding, Media and Social Media training. You will also be offered the opportunity to complete First Aid, Conflict Management and Nutrition training, as well as being given access to lots of useful online modules such as Health & Safety, Leadership, and Mental Health Awareness.
This role is flexible and can either be done independently or in conjunction with cooking, hosting or surplus food coordination. The suggested time commitment is 8 hours a month.
You don’t need any specific experience, just enthusiasm for supporting your local community. We ask that you complete all the required training and follow all policies and procedures.
You can claim travel expenses, including mileage, in line with our volunteer policy.
All volunteers must be over the age of 18.
