Hackney Hub (London)

The Hackney Hub opened its doors to guests on the 8th January 2015. So far, we have had some brilliant volunteers and some amazing dishes being created. We even managed a 3 course meal when we were faced with having no gas hobs!

Outward are very excited to be launching the first FoodCycle Hub in Hackney, it’s a place to come and have fun, meet new people in your local community and be part of a brand new project that you can help us develop!

We are very grateful to Hackney Homes, and London Borough of Hackney who have given us the space and been a great support in the project so far.

The Hub is only made possible with the great volunteers giving their time, enthusiasm and energy. We are still looking for more volunteers to come on board and be part of this exciting new project. We have lots of roles available and you would need to be available between 10am and 3pm on a Thursday.

We have opportunities available for people to come along and cook, host guests and be involved in collecting the surplus food donations from local suppliers.

The beauty of FoodCycle is that you can come for as many or as few sessions as you like, as well as signing up for part or all of the sessions.

You don’t need to have any previous cooking experience, although if you do that is just as welcome! We want as many local volunteers as possible and everyone is welcome to be a part of the Hub.

Please register to volunteer here and watch the food safety video or you can email [email protected] for more information.

Become a Hub Leader!

We particularly are looking to recruit Hub Leaders to run and manage all aspects of the Hub. This could be from managing the volunteers to leading the cooking sessions. It’s a great way for you to develop new skills and be part of a project.

Have a look at our Hub Leader page to find out how you can get involved.

Our weekly meal takes place on a Thursday lunchtime at the New Kingshold Centre on Ainsworth Road. We have a fantastic kitchen and dining space and are fortunate to have strong links with other community organisations. We cook and serve a 3 course vegetarian meal for anyone who would benefit from it.

The Hub is a safe and welcoming place for you to come along and meet some friendly people and share a hot, nutritious meal. There are also opportunities available for you to volunteer!

FoodCycle Hackney is run in partnership with the wonderful Outward.

Donations come in many forms

Thanks to our suppliers, volunteers, and community partners, FoodCycle is a low-cost model with a big impact.

However we do have some core costs and are reliant on your generosity to help us run.
